Can foreigners rent property in Kampot, Cambodia?
Yes! No special documentation or any kind of residency status is required to rent a house in Cambodia . The only requirements will be a copy of your passport and current visa (tourist, business or retirement).
Although your landlord will need to register their property on the FPCS – GDI (Foreigners Present in Cambodia System) app and the tenant will need to register and check into the property for future visa renewals.
How much deposit should I pay to rent a house?
A general rule of thumb for any residential property deposit in Cambodia is 1 month rental fee per year of the contract, plus the first month rental fee up-front.
For example: If the rental fee is $300 per month, and the contract duration is 2 years; The total would be $900 – $600 deposit + $300 first month rental.
The deposit will be returned at the end of the contract minus any fees for repairing excessive damages, although most landlords would offer a period (the last month or two) of free rent to cover the repayment of the deposit.
